She manages to broker an uneasy truce with her niece, Rhaenyra, after the death of King Viserys. He married his sister Alyssane, which is not great for obvious reasons, but apparently the two were actually in love. They were both supposed to marry suitors outside the family but eloped together instead. He built roads and sewage infrastructure—all the things a king does when he’s not busy burning people to a crisp with his dragons. Jaehaerys and Alyssane had 13 children together, but for the sake of simplicity we’ll just talk about the few who were vying for the throne.
Aegon II (Ty Tennant, then Tom Glynn-Carney)
Following the deaths of both of his sons, Prince Aemon and Prince Baelon, Jaehaerys decided to settle the question of succession – and avoid a civil war – between Aemon's daughter Princess Rhaenys and Baelon's eldest son Prince Viserys. Daemon's marriage to Rhea Royce ends soon after his second banishment from the Red Keep, with the lady officially dying of a fall from her horse. (It's heavily implied that Daemon kills her.) His second wife is Laena Velaryon, with whom he has twin girls, Baela and Rhaena. By the end of Episode 6, he's a single father after Laena dies by dragonfire while giving birth to a stillborn child.
Rhaenys (Eve Best) and Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint)
He conquered Westeros, established Targaryen rule, and sired two sons – one by each of his sister-wives. In “Fire & Blood,” Aegon (along with his dragon Balerion and his sister-wives and their dragons) conquers and unites Westeros almost just because he can. In this prequel, we revisit Westeros a few centuries before Robert Baratheon sat the Iron Throne. While there are still Baratheons to be found (and Starks and Lannisters!), the King’s Landing we’re introduced to in House of the Dragon is a very different place. At this point in Westeros history, the Targaryens and their dragons are still firmly in control of the realm. Daella Targaryen married young and unfortunately died giving birth to her first and only daughter, Aemma.
Queen Aemma (Sian Brooke)
While he was initially successful, Daeron, like his forefathers, inevitably failed, and he died during a Dornish ambush just four years after he was crowned. He was succeeded by his younger brother Baelor, who would earn the nickname the Blessed for his pious nature. Aegon the Conqueror and his sister wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, were the Targaryens who kicked off the royal dynasty on Westeros. Using their dragons Balerion, Vhagar, and Meraxes, they forged the Seven Kingdoms (although they failed to conquer Dorne), bringing the land’s current rulers to heel. House Targaryen is one of the oldest and most venerable noble families in Westeros, with a lineage going back hundreds of years to a time before the House of the Dragon ruled from the Iron Throne.

Laena’s father Corlys Velaryon initially tries to marry her to Viserys as a power play. But Viserys is uncomfortable with their huge age difference and has already set his sights on Alicent Hightower. After Daemon brutally murders his first wife, he weds Laena and together they have two daughters. Laena meets an unfortunate end, however, when trying to give birth to their third child. After learning that delivery will likely kill her, she kills herself by asking her dragon to breathe fire on her.
Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen
By the end of Season 1, she has become queen as her brother Aegon's wife, and she also has given a confirmed prophecy ("the beast beneath the boards" being Rhaenys and her dragon crashing Aegon's coronation"). Rhaenys and Corlys have two children who are involved throughout House of the Dragon, a daughter and son named Laena and Laenor. While Laenor ends up marrying Rhaenyra Targaryen to ally the houses, Laena marries Daemon Targaryen and later dies in childbirth.

Following the death of Viserys, Rhaenyra's half-brother Aegon is installed as King by the Greens. After this, and despite encouragement to wed Lady Laena Velaryon instead, King Viserys chose to marry Lady Alicent Hightower. Following the death of Queen Aemma Arryn, King Viserys I Targaryen is comforted by Lady Alicent Hightower at the urging of her father, Ser Otto Hightower the Hand of the King. At the end of the eighth episode, King Viserys dies of natural causes in his chambers after being put to bed by his second wife, Alicent. He was the grandson of King Aegon I Targaryen, aka Aegon the Conquerer, who came to rule over most of Westeros after he took control with his two sister-wives, Queen Visenya Targaryen and Queen Rhaenys Targaryen.

Jaehaerys II & Shaera Targaryen – Like his namesake, Jaehearys II felt the passion and pull of the old Targaryen incest lust – despite his father Aegon V doing everything he could to end it. Jaehaerys and his sister Shaera both broke their marriages to the Tully and Tyrell families (respectively), and married in secret, consummating the marriage so their father could not dissolve it. The marriage was upheld, but it put the Targaryens at odds with both House Tully and House Tyrell. The return to incestuous marriage also arguably caused the ruin of House Targaryen thereafter...

Little is written of this time in the books, but one interesting note is that Aegon’s second son, Aerys, appears to have been made heir over his eldest brother. Even weirder, Aerys’ third-born son, Daemion Targaryen, inherited Dragonstone. Again, we presume his elder brothers Aelyx and Baelon died without heirs, but once is a coincidence twice is a pattern. Well, we can’t prove it, but it wouldn’t be the first time the Targaryens fought each other for a throne.
Today, House of Trees stands as a beacon of hope and transformation, offering employment opportunities, benefits, and a positive social impact to our community. The Claretian retirement home stands beautifully across from the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum with much thanks to Father Patrick McPolin. Father Pat opened the museum in 1976, and was the museum director for many years following. His love for the Dominguez legacy, aviation, and history more broadly has allowed for stories of the Rancho Period to be shared with guests from all over the world.
She is known as the Queen Who Never Was because her father, the rightful heir to the throne, died, followed by his brother King Baelon, leaving King Jaehaerys I Targaryen to appoint a new successor. Prince Jacaerys Velaryon is the eldest son of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and is second in line to the Iron Throne after his mother. Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock, Emma D'Arcy) is the first-born daughter of King Viserys Targaryen and Queen Aemma Arryn and is the King's only legitimate child at the start of the season. However, his final message - which had been intended for Rhaenyra - was instead said to Alicent, prompting her to seize the throne for their eldest son, Aegon. Viserys's father was Prince Baelon Targaryen, who had three children – Viserys, Daemon and Aegon, the latter of which died before he turned one year old. After him, Aegon's son by Visenya, King Maegor Targaryen (aka Maegor the Cruel) became a tyrannical ruler after Aenys' death and even killed Aenys' eldest son, Aegon.
Soon after, Rhaegar and Lyanna ran away together to be secretly married, though the Starks and Baratheons framed it as an abduction rather than a mutual elopement, officially kicking off the war. Robert ultimately killed Rhaegar at the Battle of the Trident, and Elia and her two children with Rhaegar were killed, too. Lyanna died early, too, due to complications after giving birth to her and Rhaegar’s only child. Viserys spent most of his life with Dany in the Free Cities, where they were smuggled as children to stay safe from Baratheon forces in the aftermath of the civil war known as Robert’s Rebellion.
